CAP APPLICATOR TYPE ”CAPMASTER”

Development: AURO AS started in 2002 to develop a new applicator specially designed for the retrofit market.  We noticed that the existing applicators did not meet the requirements needed for functionality and stable operations over time. We made a couple of prototypes for test before we ended up with the unit called “Capmaster”. We worked very systematically to calculate and simulate different parts like the pneumatic system and the servo system before we even started with the mechanical design. For the mechanical design we have chosen some different suppliers that are meeting high demands on quality and secure delivery on other areas like the defense and oil industry. Actually, many details were possible because of production technology from these fields.
 During this period from 2002 to 2004 we also invented some solutions used by both Elopak and Shikoku today, like the eight arm anvil invented by Auro AS. This was necessary to get the anvil deep enough down in the carton to apply bigger caps (UE on mini cross and XE on standard cross) without lifting the carton. 
In December 2004 we got the chance to install our first Capmaster unit in a Shikoku USE160 machine at Arla Foods in Slagelse in Denmark. During the first half year of 2005 we installed 10 cap applicators in Denmark, all on USE160 machines.
 During this work, we also developed our own top sealer for easy passing a carton with cap trough a horizontal 2 ways moving sealer jaw.  Also here our success was based on technology from defense and oil industry.
 Until September 2010 we have all together delivered and installed 84 units of capmaster around the world, on Elopak, Shikoku and Tetrapak machines. With installation of other types of applicators we have delivered more than 100 systems around the world. Capmaster is delivered to countries like; Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Netherland, Saudi Arabia, Russia, Canada, Morocco, Mexico
The fastest filling machine in the world (Shikoku UME240) is equipped with Auro Capmaster cap applicators where machine speed is 24.000 cartons pr. hour.  
What is the benefit using Capmaster compared to other applicators?
First of all our machine is built as a complete unit. This give possibilities  for quick dismantling the entire unit  out for service and adjust all necessary settings before putting it back into the filling machine.
 In this way you have much more control and access to needed screws and adjustable parts.
 Also when everything is constructed in one unit, it’s easier to control the force produced by the axis movement and secure a stable condition over time.
Different Chain pitch: Second, we designed the applicator to fit the different known machines by making it adjustable in size. 95% of the parts are the same either you have a machine with 3, 3,5,4 or 5 inch pitch or if you are running with small or big caps, 4,6,8 or 9 arm anvils.

Further Development: In 2010, we have made a new step in development and the first “Max Capper” is being installed in September.  In the Maxcapper following new features are present:

MAXCAPPER, ONE COMPLETE UNIT

·         25% less energy consumption by using adaptive energy control on the ultrasonic system
·         No cooling needed because we are using the energy build up in the system together with the supplied energy in the ultrasonic to weld. When it heats up, we are supplying less energy and the total energy for the weld is constant
·         No lubrication needed after first time setup. Surface treatment with very hard metal combined with prelubricated closed components.
·         Easy adjustment and setup with our patented adjustable anvil. With very short education its still easy to set up and adjust important mechanical adjustments needed to perform. 
The Maxcapper is a compact version and can be placed in single line machines or double line machines with center distance between chains from 500 to 800 millimeter. Compared to our Capmaster which is designed to be placed on the machine bed on single line or double line machines with 800-millimeter centre distance. Most of the new development features in Maxcapper will also be offered as an option in Capmaster.
·         Servo driven ultrasonic horns are also being planned delivered as an option. The solutions for this are designed and are being tested in first quarter 2011


Prevented Maintenance Programs and System Supplier: AURO AS has also regular service on machines and cap applicators from other suppliers and we are very often rebuilding components in different machines to make it updated with modern features. We have designed fillers, top breakers, bottom rails, top sealers etc. We are also very often involved in installation, controlling and service of cap supply systems. We can offer cap supply from Tang & Weiss AS integrated together with our applicators. In many cases we also are managing the whole project and until now, we did not delay one single installation or rebuild of a filling machine.

Technical Training: We can offer technical training either in our facilities in Norway or locally on site by the customer. We are then either shipping a capper unit specially for the training or we are doing the training on the unit before installing it. AURO AS has build up a good reputation around the world and we will work hard to keep this reputation intact.
